When providing safety information to the traveling public, the balance between the use of technology to receive the information and the best use of our media tools to provide the information can be a challenge. Distracted driving has been identified by the National Safety Council as the leading cause of most vehicle crashes and near-crashes. So in our development of a public information campaign for commuter safety, we felt it was best to use an alternative source - our traffic information message board. This board allows us to expand our message for an even greater use in telling commuters about Highland Village. I think we have all come to the realization we need to stop using cell phones while driving and recognize that hands-free devices offer little to no safety benefit. Safety is our greatest concern for both the traveling public and for our residents that use trails and walkways along all our corridors. As we say in our video message, keep calm and drive on. Enjoy the scenery and stop in Highland Village for your own reason, not ours.
