Jack Thomas has been drumming most of his life. When he was 17, he lost his right arm in a a tragic workplace accident. Everything he’d worked toward up to this point had been with a goal of becoming a pro musician.

“Sorry, your arm is gone” is a life-changing phrase for anyone to hear, and a likely career-ending one for a drummer. But after just a few minutes of thinking he’d never play again, he realized that he could either let this overcome him, or he could do whatever he could to overcome it.

Jack challenges you to take your struggles and turn them into something you can overcome. If he can play “Duality” by Slipknot with just one arm, what’s your excuse?

"Duality" is a hell of a choice for a one-armed drummer. He achieved singularity. Mad respect, he's epic

Things that impress me the most:

- He learned how to do fast fills with one hand as well as play beats that require his one arm to do 16th notes between surfaces.
- His arm is actually able to keep this up for the whole song.
- He actually decided to continue playing drums after losing a limb. That's passion.

Drumeo: I bet you can't play "Duality" by Slipknot.
Jack Thomas: Hold my beer...no, seriously hold my beer. I only have one arm!

This is just amazing. He’s not trying to play like he’s using two arms, he’s playing like he’s made a unique style out of one

Dude is 100x better than most 2 armed drummers, I can’t imagine how insane he was before the accident. I wish I could like more than once

I used to teach this guy's buddy, and I remember hearing about it when that accident happened. So happy to see he kept up with drums.

My man needs a bionic arm. Maybe to hold his beer.

Does this mean this guy could have played this while holding a beer before his accident? What an absolute champ!!

Nothing but props for this man. Not only for his drumming ability but for pushing through after his accident.

I was involved in a car accident in 2019 that left me paralyzed from the waist down. I never imagined I'd be able to drum again without the use of both my legs. If we view of obstacles not as "in the way" but instead "the way forward" we can achieve anything we desire. I now drum using an electric trigger as the bas drum, sitting next to my snare. My mantra is control what you can, accept what you can't, and keep going. Cheers man... rock on!

As a musician this scenario terrifies me. But it makes me smile when I see people take the cards they’re dealt and still come out with a win.

From the pics of you on bass and the setup of your drums pre-accident, it looks like you were right-handed too. That is so inspiring that you overcame your setback and came back better. Much respect man
