Right on time for spring, Andy Warhol’s larger-than-life 1964 ‘Flowers’ leads as a top highlight in our 20th Century Evening Sale this May.

Towering at 82-inches square, one of Warhol’s largest formats, this exhilarating canvas was one of only three ‘Flowers’ of this size chosen for inclusion in Leo Castelli’s seminal exhibition where this astonishing body of work was unveiled to the public in 1964.

Set against a verdant green ground, this rare and coveted work boasts three vibrant orange hibiscus blooms with a fourth rendered in fiery red and is the only example in which all of the petals and foliage are painted with Day-Glo paint. The result is a lively, fresh and classically Warholian take on the still-life genre that encapsulates the apex of beauty and life caught in dazzling bloom.
