Patrick Leonard and I Discuss His New Album 'It all Comes Down to Mood' and We Play Some Tracks Too!

Leonard co-wrote and produced songs for Leonard Cohen's final three records, all of Madonna's early records, Roger Waters' "Amused to Death" and Elton John's "Songs From the West Coast", and Bryan Ferry's
"Bête Noire" (he co-wrote five songs), among his many writing and producing credits.

It's a musical and sonic spectacular and has enthusiastic endorsements from Elton and Todd Rundgren among others. You'll hear for yourself as well spin tracks in between talking about Leonard's incredible career as a musician and producer.

Kevin Killen engineered and mixed, Bob Ludwig mastered, Chris Bellman cut the lacquers, and I'm credited as "Vinyl Shepherd", meaning I produced the vinyl version of album, seeing it through from files to finished record.

Also, you'll have an opportunity to hear the new Audio Technica ART-1000x cartridge and McIntosh's $2000 MP100 phono preamp with deflatable built-in A/D converter. You'll hear both its phono pre and A/D in these recordings. It sounds impressive, but you be the judge.

Enjoy the talk and the music!

I discovered this album today on Qobuz, I didn't know Patrick Leonard, listened to it all at once and I find it absolutely wonderful! Greetings from Italy!

I started to think I was the only one. This album has had the same effect on me. Beginning to end. “It’s All Comes Down to Mood” and the mood in pure JOY. Did Patrick mention he wants to do three LPs?

I finally got a copy of Toy Matinee last year when MOV reissued it. I had to get it from a shop in England. One of my very favorite Indy records ever!

As always Michael any Frampton love is great karma! ☮️

I was a pre-release buyer. I've listened to it three times through since delivery. I find it to be an enjoyable, true ALBUM. Very nice, and a keeper.

Michael, the wife and I listened to it in Raleigh at the Audio Advice Live show (nice shirt, btw) in August, when we walked out the door of the room she said, "You're going to get that, right?" I said, "You can bet on it." It came in last week and it's sonically a gem. We listened to it on Qobuz on the wait. It's just fantastic sounding and the lyrics are fantastic, as well. Congrats to everybody involved. It sounded good on that Sonos Faber and McIntosh system, but it sounds fantastic on my Klipsch Fortes too!

Hi Michael, Like yourself, I have been listening to the record since Sept 6, 2024 via Spotify. I recall in an earlier video you posted, you casually mentioned the Patrick Leonard upcoming release. Your involvement, The Amused to Death Reference and since that video I have been waiting for this release to come out on vinyl. Well, the LP version was ordered on Amazon Canada Sunday and arrived yesterday. A remarkable release that Patrick should be very proud of. I do hear some hints of Amused to Death and so much more. I can see where this vinyl version may become a demo record for the fans. Thanks Michael for your vinyl push once again. Cheers and be safe.

I’m a long time fan of Mikey’s, most of the time if the greater truth be told. Thank you very much for the pleasure of this video. It is a very interesting and entertaining education come listening party that grabbed me with songs took me to new ‘sonic places, ’ from start to finish. Wow.

In brief, the songs’ music and lyrics, the musicianship and the sound quality were all treats, even on my iPhone. Congratulations to you both and to all others involved too!

IMHO, please may I respectfully say, for me the mainly ‘spoken singing’ vocals had me wish for a much better known ‘spoken singing’ voice. For example, say, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour or Roger Waters easily come to mind.

I can imagine one of them being helped a lot by the current ‘guide vocals.’ Then whomever it is would have their trademark vocal phrasing and sound take each song, take the whole album, to another level. One can dream.

Anyway, a sincere thank you, congratulations. This is just my two cents on a first impression. Good luck!
