farewell, boys. no band has ever, or probably ever will make me feel the things I've felt listening to your records for the last 20 years.

"I guess you guys aren't ready for mewithoutYou. But your kids are gonna love it."

it hurts that I discovered this band so late that they are no longer around. But I am very glad that I can listen to all of their incredible work.

Those screams were instant chills. Absolutely loved this tune, many Pale Horse vibes here.

This band has been so important to me since I was a kid (I’m 34 now 🫣). Got me through some hard times. Still getting me through my most recent suicide attempt. They bring me back to faith. I’ll always regret I didn’t get to see their last tour, but I’m eternally grateful for the way their music has touched my soul. I hope their lives continue to be filled with love, beauty, and creativity.

Without a doubt the most grossly underrated creators of pure art I've ever seen. The slop that gets called music while these guys quietly created the most thoughtful and beautiful art I've ever heard.

I haven't listened to mewithoutyou since 2003 and the first 15 seconds of this song damn near made me tear up. What have I been missing out on?!

For anyone confused the video is combining 1984 and back to the Future. There are many references in the song about 1984, most notably with sending the rats.

It could also be argued that the references in the album and song of not existing or not being sure who you are or what makes you are represented by the people disappearing.

The first verse is sung out to God

“Today a thousand years of strained affection and prayer- out beyond ideas of “right and wrong is a field”… will I meet You there?”

The last verse is God’s response-

““In case your plan falls through…
to mispronounce MY name-
To curse “You Don’t Know Who”
And bow before the same…
I’ll meet you there.”

Today a thousand years
Of strained affection and prayer
"out beyond ideas of right & wrong is a field"
Will I meet you there?
Will I meet you there?
The summer garden blooms
With autumn soon replaced
Another harvest moon—
So many ways to lose
So many faiths

'Holy to the LORD' on the bells of horses
Safely on the shore we sank like stones
To the bottom of a made up ocean

Standing on the lake shore, Julia
Silent as a seashell, Julia
Magnet of the elk park, Julia
Laid down on the temple floor
"Send a couple rats, " said Julia
I'd have done the same thing to you
Coffee and a milk, now Julia
Who do you think needs who more?

In case your plan falls through
To mispronounce my name
(static between me and that Salafi, Yusef)
To curse You-Don't-Know-Who
And bow before the same
(so was the scene at al-Aqsa.)
I'll meet you there
(I have to admit I loved the cut of his pant legs!)
I'll meet you there
(another lovely afternoon for Sūrat al-Kāfirūn)

Sucks to find out that this band is breaking up next year, but I'm so glad I got to see them this spring.

Chills
Probably one of my top 10 favorite parts in any song ever

I love how when the police figures take the guitarist’s younger self away, he sees that from the stage, understands what’s about to happen to him, and decides to go out rocking. And the way Aaron screams into the mic, my goodness!

My wife was pregnant with twins (a boy and a girl) when I first heard this song. Today Julia and her brother turned 4. Thank you guys so much.

Best concert I ever went to was mewithoutYou opening for Blindside and P.O.D. In the smallest venue ever in San Francisco when I was 15… changed my life(only listened to rap and mainstream music before that!)
Truly a band that does change lives….

Mewithoutyou always makes me cry. Mighty MEN they are, and their legacies will ring throughout the rest of time.

Aaron could be an actor. He has the natural ability to convey emotion very well with his face.

I had the opportunity to have a 3 hour long conversation with Aaron outside of a show in Norfolk, VA in 2007. That conversation changed my eyes on all the religious bull shit I had been fed as a child. He was, without a doubt, a genuine and caring guy who sought spiritual enlightenment

This is the best song I've heard in a long, long, long time. I'm new to these guys, but not new to the game. Didn't like their first video back in the early 2000s, but I was young and weak, now I'm seeing them now for the very first time.
