“Those struggles were not the obstacles to learning, they were the learning.” 🙏 Huge respect for your journey! Thanks for sharing.

Man, this video really hit home for me. Over the past week, I’ve been struggling a lot with my coding tutorials. Honestly, this has been an ongoing battle for me. I first started coding back in 2019, but I quit because I wasn’t disciplined enough to keep going.

I gave it another shot in 2021 when I got my first laptop, but distractions and the challenge of juggling work and learning made it tough. I pushed myself so hard back then—barely sleeping. The only time I had to rest was between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m., but I’d use that time for midnight browsing, downloading tutorials and PDFs I’d use during the day. It made it really hard for me to get enough sleep because I was forcing myself to learn to code without proper rest. Eventually, I almost passed out from exhaustion and ended up in the hospital for two days. After that, I completely lost my motivation to code for months.

But here’s the thing: I realized coding is something I genuinely love. No matter how much I feel like I suck at it sometimes, I just can’t quit. Now, I’ve got everything I need—unlimited internet, reliable electricity, and an amazing laptop—but I still can’t seem to focus.

I even started drinking coffee and energy drinks to stay focused when I sit down to learn. It works during the tutorials, but when I try to apply what I’ve learned on a project or assignment, it feels like I haven’t retained anything. It’s frustrating and makes me feel stupid sometimes.

Everything you said in this video resonates so deeply with me, especially the part about struggling. The only difference is that my focus issues are on a whole other level.

Thank youuu, Ebenezer! I appreciate how you keep reiterating not giving up. Same thing I heard in your interview with Esther. It would be great to know the journey between 10 years ago and now.

That you could articulate these challenges perfectly, shows you indeed went through it. Nice one

Now I'm in school without a laptop but planning to search for a cyber cafe in my skul that I can pay to monthly to access his laptop for some hours everyday.
Hopes on God next year, I'll get a gig and get a laptop, any type.

Thank you very much for sharing this sir.

I will definitely start implementing this things on my journey to becoming a fullstack developer.

I am currently working on a reactjs project, and the problem it solves is that, it helps travelers to keep track of the things they will be taking along on their trip so they won't forget anything.

Also, I use an HP laptop which is currently faulty to learn how to code.

Thank you.

The struggle makes us strong.
I started with itel A14 then gradually a 1gb ram with no battery.

But consistent and keep learning and everything keeps getting better.

Great vid! I am very early in my career, but from my family I am the first one who went into STEM. No relatives or mentors to ask for help. And ngl, I am glad i learnt to figure out things myself. Still a lot more to figure out, and more to learn from people like you!

I'm currently teaching high schoolers to code. HTML, CSS, soon Javascript etc. I have no background in tech I have a degree in Food Science but I needed a job. So I started substitute teaching and coding is very interesting. I am using the school platform to teach myself coding. I would like to continue in Wed development and cybersecurtiy.

"Focus". I can personally attest to this. As a CS undergrad, I used to jump from one programming language to another, achieving nothing at the end of the day. To me, printing "Hello, World!" on the console in C, Python, or any other language felt fancy but I wasn't actually solving any problem. But tht changed when I decided to focus on one language. Now, I'm getting better at Python, and I feel proud of myself.
