Now that we have a project, it's time to learn XAML for user interface layout and interaction. Bob provides a fast but gentle introduction -- as he calls it, the "cheater's guide" -- to learning this declarative language. He explains what XAML is at a high level

Of the 25 or so videos I skipped through (including the ones from Microsoft), this is the one that finally got to the point. THANKS!!

I am a software Engineering student who is on the Windows App learning curve and this provided a brilliant balance between "behind the scenes compiler" and applied knowledge. I wrote notes, and will save them when I start marking my apps.

Great video! Great communication!

You are really a good teacher. Your teaching process is really great. The topic becomes so easy to understand when you explain them. Thank you for such a useful video series. I'm quickly going to finish all of them.

Thanks again Bob! I am a new subscriber to this channel but of course wish to thank Makis Maropoulos as well. I am a dinosaur of a developer in WinForms and lately have been trying to catch-up. XAML is really the missing link for me. I mean I get it... on a surface level XAML is not complicated... but becoming productive with it is something else. It seems like it's critical to learn if you are planning to develop in Microsoft technologies as it seems every platform released now uses XAML from Silverlight to WPF and Store Apps... I think even ASP.Net uses XAML doesn't it?.

Anyway I am building my first Store App for a customer and have just finished watching: "Designing Your XAML UI with Blend Jump Start" on MVA which was great... it gave me a great overview and knowledge of the potential and an understanding of how it should all come together... BUT it was way to fast to actually learn the implementation of it all.

Even though you are taking it real slow in this series going back to the basics... it is a refreshing pace and needed... it helps me to know I haven't missed anything and fills in all the gaps from the rest of the tutorials I have been watching. Thanks again and keep up the good work! I've always enjoyed your teaching style and look forward to completing this series as well as others.

Very informative and to the point, I love it! My only question is: Why the grid? Why isn't everything not just arranged by margin, much like positioning in HTML? I understood everything you said, I'm just wondering if this is the standard way of doing things in XAML.

Before I get any further on this tutorial I'd like to ask, is it for people who already know xml or is he going to teach xaml for complete beginners..?

How can you modify FontFamily in the OnNavigatedTo function??
I'm a c++ user and sincerely this is the only tutorial to teach xaml and the sort for vs 2012.
I'm my case I created a text box by writing:

TextBlock ^Text5 = ref new TextBlock();

And it worked, but writing:

Text5->FontFamilly = Corbel;
or
Text5->FontFamily = "Corbel";

Didn't work. ;/
