Water made the seal on the bowl & the cup...the battery sparked the steel wool & the burn used up the o2 in the glass creating a vacuum...great science display...

This is just a guess but, the heat generated from the sparks burned the oxygen within the glass making a vacuum to hold the glass to the bowl. The moist towel made the seal constant and prevented air holes.
