My family used to be a little like this, until my mother realized she could literally just make things little by little in days leading up to it.
My father always handles the turkey, but even then most of the actual work is done in steps ahead of time instead of all at once.

Prepping for Thanksgiving is a MULTI day process. I start shopping for dry goods about 2 weeks in advance, fresh goods the weekend before, and start prep work 2-3 days in advance. It is seriously a behemoth task, and I only cook for a few people, but preparing all those dishes takes work! Salute to all the Thanksgiving cooks out there
