The American 'Buzz Bomb'

The United States had become aware of the German V-1 as early as 1942. Under Project MX-544, American engineers reverse-engineered the V-1 using unexploded German V-1s that had crash-landed. The American JB-2, nicknamed the Loon, was slated for use during the proposed invasion of Japan. Thousands were ordered but by the end of the war, Republic and Ford had built a little over 1000 missiles. The 27 foot long American “Buzz Bomb” could carry a 2200 pound high explosive warhead 150 miles and continued to be used as a test-bed for missile programs during the early 1950s. @AnyHistory
