I’m surprised the drilled covers aren’t doing better. It could be your climate, I’m about 1/3 the way down the state of IL. We get enough to graze by November. It could be what you drilled vs what you broadcast. We also drill a summer blend towards the end of winter, when the ground is frozen, but not rock hard. Sometimes you have to get out there and pull an all nighter, other times, it’s a daytime job. We can get a 300 unit nitrogen credit consistently, we’re no till and plant green. I irrigate with Y drop on linear irrigation units and blend with hog manure. I hate the word yield, profit is what matters, but we don’t yield less than the county average on some ground. On ground we’re developing, we do yield less, but it’s OK, gotta look at the big picture.
