Melatonin is often considered a safe and effective sleep aid, and it's common to give it to children who experience sleep disruptions. But it's important that parents are cautious about this, as kids don't necessarily need MORE melatonin, and it can actually create some unintended consequences.

Join sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus as he explains why you should think twice about giving your kids melatonin, and offers some alternatives for boosting the quantity and quality of your child's sleep.

I was born with a form of Autism called Asperger's. And I used to stay up late frequently when I was 7 and 8 years old. Especially when I felt hyperactive. So it makes sense. Thank You Dr Breus.

My daughter gives my grandson 10 mg of melatonin every night, started at 3 mg when he was 7, he’s 12 now. It does not work. He has ADHD. I feel so bad for him because he struggles and it is so frustrating for him but 10mg! I also worry about his long term affects😢

Thank you for this video! Our granddaughter came to spend the weekend with us when she was two years old and her mom gave us melatonin to just give her every night so she could go to sleep. It really bothered me and has for the last five years.

Thank you for the information about autistic children. That little pill made a big difference in our home.

I just saw a news report about this on TV. And was shocked to see the numbers of people giving their children melatonin, ! It was like 42%! And 30% something "on the fence", and 35 % who said never!

My toddler son had problems going to sleep. Had to rock him to sleep. And when put down, he'd wake right back up. But even if melatonin was around back then, I doubt that I'd use it. Today he's a healthy adult, and falls to sleep at the drop of a hat on my couch lol 😅

I’ve also read that it can disrupt the onset of puberty. Do you have any knowledge about this?

My son is 6 months old. He has colic issue...he sometimes can't sleep at night for 3-4 hours when he is gassy . Sometimes, he sleeps at 12 am, 1 or 2. No specific sleep pattern and continuously wakes for 4-5 hours whenever he is disturbed...so in this situation, is it safe for him..!???.one thing more....when he goes to sleep after all this disturbance...he sleeps for 10 hours with just feeding breaks..or sometimes disturbs me for burping at night

Some of them have no problem giving their kids a dangerous Covid shot...I'm sure they think this is great.

Ok right….so just come to you so you can write a script for clonidine???? Or adderall? Y’all have NO problem prescribing pharmaceuticals for sleep but melatonin is dangerous? Right.
