The Mexican fishermen: I sleep late, play with my children, take siestas with my wife and stroll into the village each night where i sip wine and play guitar with my amigos -- i live a full and busy life

The American scoffed: i have an MBA from harvard and can help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several more and eventually youd own an entire fleet. Instead of selling to a middleman, you could sell directly to a processor where eventually you could open up your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution, but of course youd need to leave this small coastal fishing village to move to LA, then NY where you would run your expanding enterprise.

The fisherman replied: but how long would all of this take?

To which the american replied: maybe 15-20 years.

Fisherman: but then what?

American: thats where it gets interesting.. you would then announce an ipo to begin selling stock to the public where you would become very rich!

Fisherman: but then what?

American: then you could sleep late, play with your children, take siestas with your wife and sip and play guitar with your amigos

Fisherman: but sir, thats what i do right now....


Moral of the story-- take only what you need and ignore abundance.

The COST vs the VALUE of things. If you have the essential things in life…you already are fortunate and rich. If you cannot be happy with the small things, you might have plenty but won’t know how to value things. It’s not a negative to want more but if you are always seeking more and more than you need… you won’t be happy with always pursuing more. Learn to value the small things, that’s all. The white man was also seeing the brown man’s world through the white man lens…not understanding the culture and values of the brown man… therefore, different worlds and diferente perspectives.
