Life in the United States has changed since the pandemic hit. Our economy to a major hit and now with the end of COVID 19 possibly in sight Americans are on the move. I lived in Nashville. I was poor there compared to when I lived in Portland (technically Vancouver, Wa which many call a suburb of Portland). My rent went from $650 to $1200 and my income dropped significantly for the same job. I think that is was really hurt me was the wage decline. You can live in the cheapest place ever but if you don’t get adequate pay you’re still going to be poor. So remember that with some of these southern states.

People do need to be warned that Arkansas is one of the few states that arrests/imprisons for debt/eviction still, so if you're looking for a cheap place but have debts you're paying down (or could incur debts) it's not exactly the safest place for saving money.

I'm from Memphis; born and raised. My vehicle was broken (took entire woodgrain console) into in front of my mom's home. My mom went on to report the incident to MPD and they impound my vehicle saying it was stolen although my mom had the keys. Quick ending i received my vehicle back after fees;later saw my radio being sold on Craigslist. TRY NASHVILLE!!

After travelling to all of these places, all I can say is "They're cheap for a reason..."
The Southern States have absolutely brutal humidity/heat indices.
I mean so bad it can literally take your breath away. When I worked in Alabama, aside from work, I would only go out at night. AC isn't a luxury, it's a medical necessity.
Kansas and Oklahoma are so flat its unnerving. Then, of course there's the tornado danger.

I just moved out of California, the most expensive state. And now live in Fayetteville, NW Arkansas, it was a shock how much cheaper AR is, in a good way!

You should also mention that Tennessee wages are also very low, most jobs are 8 or 9 whole bucks and hour and we are a right to work state. Also, noting much rural here anymore around Nashville since everyone wants to move here. My town use to be super safe and clean, not anymore 😭😭😭

I noticed Briggs posts images of New Orleans when talking about Mississippi. I guess it's on the Mississippi, but it's not in the state.

Parts of the Colorado Rockies is on the Arkansas River... Maybe a better image for Arkansas?
