My favorite quote “300 million people in the USA and we couldn’t find 11 players to defeat Trinidad y Tobago” LMAO

Fun fact: Because Trinidad and Tobago were a) Bottom of the qualification group, b) On a 6-game losing streak and had a goal differential of -13, and c) Already eliminated from world cup qualification, most of their main players were benched for this game and replaced with young, inexperienced rookies.

Meaning not only did the US lose against Trinidad and Tobago, they somehow managed to lose a crucial match against Trinidad and Tobago's B Team.

Since this comment has become so popular, here's an extra fun fact: Trinidad and Tobago lost a qualification playoff to the US in 1990, giving America the World Cup's last CONCACAF qualification spot at the expense of Trinidad and Tobago. Alvin Jones' dad was on the losing Trinidadian side, which is why he saw this match as personal revenge.

I was done with the USMNT that day but when I saw a young Christian Pulisic cry, I couldnt leave that kid behind and now hes given US fans something to Hope for in the future.

Im Costa Rican, and i remember that at the time of the last match of the hex, we all wanted panama to beat us so they could advance into their first ever WC (as the relationship between Costa Rica and Panama is very friendly) we were in absolute disbelief when we scored and were actually playing to win, as we were somehow winning with a “B” team against Panama’s best ever squad, when Panama scored their second goal at the 88th minute we celebrated that goal as much as we celebrated any goal in a World Cup ever, we didn’t even realize the US had somehow managed to lose to Trinidad until the next morning.

As an Argentinian, the ad asking Americans to support Mexico was the most incredible part of the video. I can't even imagine an ad like that airing in Argentina, asking us to support our biggest rival; it's so incredibly tone-deaf!

Some random dude on Facebook said it best on that Trinidad Tobago loss. "To all my Americans who don't watch soccer, we basically lost to the Cleveland Browns of CONCACAF."

People might hate Alexi, but at least he's been to a WC....

And about four years later, team USA is in a knockout game against the netherlands

honestly it feels good that the two are back at the World Cup after both missing out in 2018.

I was a pretty hardcore follower of the USMNT from 2009 til 2014, then I slowly dropped off due to life responsibilities and other hobbies at the time. I didn't experience this heartache as I wasn't actively following soccer at the time. I didn't even know who Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Sergino Dest were until I started following soccer again sometime in 2019. Thanks for making this!

As someone from the UK what the US team needs is a new manager. Pulisic has literally been through this process and won a UCL for it. Being able to take a different approach whether it be Tuchel-like passive defense into quick counter attack style or Guardiola-esque tikitaka build up play would be really helpful to the aforementioned mentality that the idiot of a former coach waffled about.

This was the game that should have proved to the US soccer federation that we NEED Pro-Rel in some form. Especially with the lower leagues like the USL. 1/2

Beautiful video Max, even with the PTSD of being 16 and watching us fail

That post Trinidad loss rant with Days of our Lives in the background is absolutely glorious. You can't tell me Maqwell isn't inspired by UrinatingTree, that was total Days of our Steelers vibes.

I'm Mexican and I honestly felt bad because in the 2014 qualifiers the US had saved us and we failed to return the favor :(

I feel you man I’m American but all my roots are from Mexico so I go for Mexico. But damn if Mexico and the USA switched I’d be pissed too.

Loved this video. I didn't get into soccer until late 2018 so I love learning about the USMNT/MLS before that time. This is definitely the most entertaining video I've seen covering the 2017 failure. New subscriber!
