Product design engineer Vincent Valderrama returns to Epicurious to pit a $49 Nurxiovo stand mixer against an upscale $1,000 model from Wolf Gourmet in a series of common tasks. From combining pizza dough and whipping meringue to making frosting and grinding meat, Vincent breaks down which tasks the high-priced model outperforms the budget option on, and which ones it doesn’t.

would have been great to see the standard kitchenaid workhorse compared to these two, especially since it's always about $400

That was so interesting. Thank you. The $49 mixer performed much better than I expected it to.

Very enjoyable series. Would've liked to see both stacked up against a middle contender (I have a Kitchenaid Pro 600 which is practically famous for being best in bracket) that's somewhere between as a third option. But this was interesting to see how an engineer's thought process worked when approaching evaluating both of these extreme ends of the spectrum.

The best accessory I ever bought for my KitchenAid was the smaller bowl. It's amazing the difference it makes for certain tasks.

I like that you were fair to the low-end mixer. Where it did where you said so and told us why.

Loved the video! I would love to see kitchen aid vs Bosch mixers.

Can’t believe they just skipped Kitchenaid

Between those two, I'd take my chances with the $50 machine.

Though I personally have a Kitchen Aid mixer and would probably recommend that. Decent price medium between the two and will likely last me until I die.

I'll stick with my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer. It has yet to disappoint me in the ten years I've had it.

The Wolf seems vastly overpriced. I'd be concerned about the other's durability, but given it's 5% the price and includes a grinder, the choice seems obvious. You could buy 20 of the Walmart special. Is the Wolf going to last 20x as long? Probably not.

We need more of this kind of videos!
Really informative.

There's one thing that still bothers me about these stand mixers, and many others just like them. While the meat grinder is running, the spindle underneath is also whirling around, creating a potential hazard. Why haven't the manufacturers either figured out a system to disengage the spindle or some kind of clip on guard to cover the area to minimise the risks. I've seen it happen in a commercial setting, I shudder to think of something like that happening in the home.

I prefer a good ol standard Kitchenaid their expensive but their totally worth it I even have a hand held mixer for doing hand held options because of the stir function its way slower than a standard hand held mixer :)

For everyone claiming "I never heard of Wolf"; it's a "No name brand." Wolf is the newish line of countertop appliances from Sub-Zero, hardly a "no name" brand. And Consumer Reports rated Wolf their top choice, over top-of-the-line KitchenAid, which came in fourth. Take that for whatever it's worth.

I would have liked to see a Kitchenaid compared with a Cuisinart and the Wolf.

Wolf did embarrassingly bad.

Would like to see Bosch vs Kitchenaid vs Ankarsrum.

The price difference of $951 is enough for me to always choose the budget option

Can the dough hooks be switched? It would be interesting to see if a replacement hook for the Wolf and put it on the cheaper unit to save money and still improve the quality of the product.
