Interesting to revisit this video now in 2021 now that Aventras are finally running. The first Aventras are the Class 345 for the Elizabeth line. The differences are interesting. The biggest one that struck me was no pocket sliding doors on any actual trains, which look like Electrostar 2.0s in this video.

Then there's the fact that Bombardier is Alstom now. Only time will tell what Alstom does with the Aventra platform and with Derby Litchurch Lane Works, the only passenger rolling stock factory left in the UK.

P.S. 1:11 What's with the dramatic musical dissonance here? It's creepy, and disruptive for a promotional presentation 😅

Many congratulations to Bombardier in winning the Crossrail contract.  This AVENTRA train will be one of 65 gracing the Crossrail service in 2018.

Siemens has pulled out of the bid to build Crossrail's Class 345 rolling stock just 20 days ago. CAF and Hitachi along with Bombardier are all that remains.

A train like this would be perfect for providing inter regional rapid transit service for the Greater Toronto Area, with a mix of subways and Transit City lines and 905 light rail lines feeding into the inter regional GTA rapid transit system, similar to the 1980s GO ALRT plan. Then perhaps we could finally start deploying high speed rail across North America with a mix of gas turbine Bombardier Jet Trains and TGV style trains, something that would at least be fun to conjure up on Trainz. : D

Even if they're not to be used on Thameslink, I guess we'll still be seeing some of these in the UK in the coming years.

Scotrail will be needing new trains for EGIP and the Borders rail project.
I'm hoping they'll choose Bombardier!

This needs to replace the electrostar and those really old musty southwest trains that go from Ashstead

Gautrain is built of this design. This is the Electrostar MK2 and is a far better option for Thameslink
