It really baffles me with how common it's become with musicians. You'd think they'd understand the problems with AI art generators stealing people's work. I get that it's new and novel and all that, but there are so many amazing artists more than willing to do album covers WITHOUT stealing from others. The new Alpha Wolf LP is a perfect example.

I think AI should be used as a tool for reference, so that you can brainstorm ideas with it and go further than what you could maybe imagine, but to then create the piece yourself. Think of it as like AI = Draft and then you create the final product. The authenticity would be there

I think this one is a bit different. From what I understand, the artist in question uses his own drawings and 3D renders as a base. The AI learns using his own work, so he can then reproduce and experiment. That's what I gathered from looking at his page.

I think Thomas John Byrne (singer of galleons and valiant hearts) made a very good video on this topic. I feel he goes over it really well as an artist and musician I feel his opinion is very valuable in this type of discussion.

When AI starts wiggling its way into music making (which it already has started doing), bands that use AI Images for cover art can't complain. Its ruining all forms of art, and unless bigger people like bands put their foot down against it, we're doomed.

New alphawolf's album cover makes this one look like soulless shit. I know it is kinda matches the northlane style, but imo anything drawn/modeled by human would look 100 times better. Alien album cover is their peak at this moment

I couldn't even tell this was ai generated, but now i'm disappointed in Northlane. The last ABR album cover was so obviously ai though.

I love Northlane, but it is kinda sad seeing such a creative band using such a non-creative way of creating their album cover

I think AI art can be fine in 2 situations. 1. The band or artist is very very small and doesn’t have the funding to commission an artist. 2. Some of the music has some sort of message about AI where using AI art would fit with the theme.

It is a lot better than obsidians in my opinion, but I liked the single art for Dante and Miasma way more than this final piece, and I think AI art and northlane go together very well, they've always had art that matches the mood or concept behind the music

I find it ironic and baffling that any metal band is even using ai art at all considering that metalcore and metal music in general is seen as a form of counter-culture and you would think bands as well as fans of said bands would shame people for using it. In my eyes, i see art and music as two sides of the same coin, especially considering that many people (including myself) consider music as a form of art in general. I just feel like it's a stab in the back to artists who make album covers. I also feel like it's gonna lead us down a dark path that's just gonna make things worse

My personal feelings are: if a band chooses to represent their work with a throwaway generated artwork, why should I give them any of my time? They are perfectly fine with the visual representation of their work being a soulless, meaningless mess, so I'll treat it as such.

Plenty of bands releasing great music and respecting their own art, I'd rather give them my time.
