Benefits of a Federal Government GS Job

There are numerous benefits from working a Federal Government job. In this video I detail multiple benefits to consider when contemplating applying for a GS Federal job. The military and veteran community seem to gravitate towards GS Federal Jobs. If you are interested in working for the federal government then there are plenty of opportunities that lie ahead. I have retired from the military and have personally been working in a rewarding GS Federal Job for almost 3 years.

A little correction on the leave. Under 3 yrs is 104 hrs or 13 days/2 weeks and 3 days . From 3 to under 15 yrs is 160 hrs or 20 days/4 weeks. Over 15 yrs is 208 hrs or 26 days/5 weeks and 1 day. A week of leave is 40 hrs or 5 work days. Sick leave is pegged at 104 hrs a year.

I feel like a lot of these benefits are the norm for virtually all workers here in Barbados. In fact most if not all full time employees enter a job entitled to three weeks off for vacation, as well as paid public holidays, or double or even triple pay for certain holidays if the employee has to work.

Does the “ladder” positions also apply to lower GS pay scales? Can you give examples (titles) of said positions?

What 13 holidays? I thought we are at 11 yearly. 1 every 4 years or so and one when someone dies which is generally nor to often. Should make that clear.

I kind of skimmed over this. But I use to get deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait and make extra money that way. Also, when you take a overseas assignment you get free housing which can be beneficial Did that for 12 years.

I work as a MLT GS employee on a airforce base. However I feel like I am getting under paid with the knowledge I have. With that being said I have intern OTJ experience but no actual hired experience. Is there anything I can do to argue if I am getting under paid?

Will the agency not process my application or review my resume until the job posting is closed even if it is a direct hire authority position? I just applied for a criminal investigators position and it doesn’t close till next year.
