Guild Wars 2 doesnt even require an update. Its clever with its phasing and map layers.

Okay, but imagine a game about a world where Halloween isn't a thing and instead of making up a Halloweenie-sounding event it's actually just a couple of pumpkins spawning in game and it turns out it was a random prankster

Hahah this is so true. I could care less for seasonal events; I log into mmos to enter an alternate reality and escape. I don’t need to be reminded that it’s Halloween when I log into the game too… It would be a lot more immersive if they made their own original holiday / seasonal events.

I rather take the one pumpkin over games redoing every zone until it’s unrecognizable and then wondering why new players don’t enjoy their first time logging in, after being showered with seasonal event rewards obligatorily, of course.

I absolutely hate seasonal updates in MMO's. The few times I've tried SWTOR has for some reason always been around december, so whenever I'd go to a populated place I'd be showered in fucking snowballs
