I’ve come to realize single player linear games with a tad bit of exploration are my favorite kind of games to play. Games like Bioshock, last of us, and dead space. Games where I press one button to collect loot, and all the loot matters. It keeps me just invested enough without having to worry about inventory management when I pick up too much trash. Within the looting of useful items are audio logs or notes that tell a story or add to the story of the world you’re in. Exploration is encouraged to find more ammo, more materials. But the exploration also won’t have you going off track for the next 3 hours. Just enough upgrades and lite rpg mechanics to have multiple play styles that work. But not too many rpg mechanics to where excessive inventory management is required and certain upgrades/choices on what to upgrade aren’t detrimental to the experience. They also tend to be shorter games to get through, and I’ll take a shorter more polished experience over a longer more expansive one thats unable to keep that polish or just isn’t from the get go. And 20-25 hours within that specific game world is usually enough for me, and after I’m ready to move on to another world/franchise. Open world games take too long. Spend too much time in a world where I’m no longer feeling what brought me there. Maybe I’m into knights and dragons this month. Could be space next month. Those shorter linear games support my need to change it up.

I’d rather a linear game with a great story and polished mechanics than a giant open world that is lifeless with a mediocre story

thank you, im glad you posted the names of the games in the search bar, im sick of seeing 'game1, game2, game3' when i often miss the name of the game being mentioned since some people on this channel decide to speak incredibly fast while doing the intro to each game segment.

Still Wakes The Deep is my GOTY. True horror experience with some of the best dialogue and voice acting i have ever seen in movies, nevermind games. cmon freedom

As a bachelor I loved open world games with deep stories. Now that I'm married with kids. I really appreciate a solid linear low stress game lol

I just started Plucky Squire a few days ago, as it's on PS+, and its even better than i had hoped. It makes me feel like a kid again, it's incredibly charming and cozy.

Still not a single mention of Harold Halibut. It's sad, it is a pretty cool experience

I’m sick of open world games. In fact, I go out of my way to avoid them at this point, unless it’s something that seems truly great.

So, so excited for Neva. I played Gris last year and it made me cry i loved it so much. Like a 4 hour game but i still think about it often. Purely enchanting soundtrack and artstyle ❤

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 is my GOTY. I've had it on my steam wish list for almost 2 years. After playing the first game a year after it came out I was wondering why I had not heard anything about a sequel as good as it was.

Kunitsu-Gami is my favorite hidden gem of 2024 so far. I love the gameplay, the art style, the music, and especially the puppet theater play Capcom commissioned as a promotional video for the game.

Indika was absolutely incredible. Top notch indie stuff.

Until Dawn took so many playthroughs to get every trophy. I got jumpscared a lot until I grew numb to them by playing soo much. Can't wait to get it on PC

Great video! Thank you for including game titles instead of the usual "Game number 1". Makes it so much easier to back track after watching to find the game I want to try out.

Playing Plucky Squire with my young son. Its just a joyous experience. He's absolutely loving it and I'm loving both playing it and the constant look of wonder on his face.

Thanks for making content like this! I watch a lot of gaming content, but so much of it is skewing negatively, talking almost exclusively about how bad games and the industry are, and how we hate everything. It's nice that Gameranx always has a mix of videos that I can watch when I need a break from negativity! 😍

the Mafia 1 re-master, (available on Gamepass), is some cool, chilled, old-skool linear, story-driven fun; and totally retains the vibe of games 20 or so years ago.

Fuck that hurt when you said "some of you older players remember escape from butcher bay" xD still feels like it released only a few years ago

‘Path of the Goddess’ is very recommended, a unique mix between third person combat and light strategy. It’s not a full price, and should get as many sales as possible so ‘Capcom’ keep releasing new and unique IPs
