This video was goood :) I remember finding you guys because of a short you did about contrast paints that led me to the longer vid and making me rethink things since so many of these paints are new to me (this stuff wasn't around 25+ years ago when I got into Battletech LOL). I've spent more on paint since getting back into the hobby this year than on minis so far LOL.
It hurts my brain that people think airbrushing is cheating lol. Still looking for a decent one to start with and use for priming outside instead of rattle cans.
I really appreciate the time and effort you both put into things. Makes me want to quit making excuses and just paint (the pile is increasing bit by bit).
That mini at the end was awesomely done! The paint work you both did was great and that basing was a work of beauty! :D
Thanks for all you both do. <3 :)

It's funny how far behind the war gaming scene is on airbrushes. I remember reading modelling books for like scale tanks that were about using your airbrush that were written decades ago.

Congratulations on hitting 20k! I actually knew most of those controversial takes except for the extra one. A friend of mine actually did start his journey with slapchop attempt, I offered zenithaling his minis and skipping drybrushing. Frankly he does alright. If only he wasn't so busy he would be done with them.

One of the topics of Roman Lappat's beginner workshop is brush control and watching him afterwards it made so much more sense why he can paint that fast. But it's not something for a video and will not be learned by only watching.

Great video guys and congrats on 20k. Just keep up the good work, I’m delighted to see the channel grow. I can understand your frustrations. I’m one that has changed how I use YouTube in the last year, I don’t trust the feed. The algorithm is too stupid to understand what I want to watch, but even just going through my subscriptions one by one I still managed to miss your badab war video so I’m going to check that out soon.

Your video on the internet as the warp has been my favourite thing you’ve put out so far, but your content is genuinely always enjoyable.

I agree with all your opinions. But as you said, the brush control is not what you can teach via YouTube. But also, the standards for painting and mixing were shown so often, that another video about that will not have enough attention. So, they need something new. And when one of the big miniatures youtuber show this, the other will jump on that train for more likes. I am happy that you are not going that way and I like very much that you find interesting topics like color theory. Your channel is great.

I love you've reached this milestone but hope it's only the first of many. Looking forward to the next design versus lore video

I love your color harmony video and your color theory video I haven’t seen anything like it on YouTube. So it really helps me as someone who’s new to the hobby. Keep up the good work

If this information had been available back in 2017, I would have saved so much time and money. I have a handheld airbrush, and it’s great for priming and creating simple camouflage patterns on large surfaces.

I really hope that you guys are not gonna get demoralized from how annoying YT can be to high-quality content creators! The platform has certainly changed from say 12 years ago. You make really amazing content althroughout (even if I can’t watch all of the videos since some don’t interest me regarding the theme, which is a shame since I know I‘d enjoy them [to be clear: I‘m not against video diversity on your channel ]) and it‘d be a waste for the future to lose you. Love <3 ❤, people like you are what this community, platform and world need.

I totally agree with all of these. I'm a member of a rather large Facebook group and every time someone comes on looking to get into the hobby and asking for paint recommendations I just cringe at all the users telling them all they need are Speedpaints. And I simply couldn't get by without my airbrush. Or should I say airbrushes as I seem to have accumulated quite a few and am anxiously awaiting the email from Harder & Steenbeck with my early access order link for the 2024 Infinity.

I taught my spouse brush control with a simple method. At the time, we were painting every day, in the evening. Before we began painting our minis, I had her first do some basic exercises with her brushes, using paint, on a flat, blank, shiny surface index card. First was using a very thin and tiny brush to paint very tiny lines, circles, triangles, and squares. Then, using a medium brush and paint, we did a few minutes of smooth surface coating, with thin and thicker paint. Lastly, I had her practice simple drybrush. All of this was short - the whole exercise took no longer than five minutes, so she would not get bored.

This worked. She went from low skill to high skill in about two weeks. What she learned carried over to her calligraphy doing illuminated manuscript style work in her Renfaire hobby. I found my simple system of short, regular practices before painting in earnest really worked for her.
