One thing I do love about the direct drive zone and even the zone in general is they are possible. The Zone already exists, flow state is an example, direct drive what it is, is teamplay reacting to the zone in this case 'direct drive' well a drive is a form of dribbling past an opponent, the direct part of it is forcing direct ways around a player due to using synchronized passes back and forth, basically players become included in the drive vs it being a one person play like it normally is, if you can keep up with a player in the zone and support them in such a way that increases the amount of plays vs just powerful passes which is what Akashi did to force into a pseudo zone, in his version it's more the player having the ball at exactly the time they think they can use it vs team play itself.

I guess this is how you play Basketball in Japan. Your eyes start to glow and start having an aura or something and when you get in the zone, the ball also goes super saiyan 2 or what-not

This anime is very flashy but also realistic because for all the colorful effects of direct drive zone, it's actually the most practical. No matter how much of a genius prodigy a player may be, basketball has five people on each team, so realistically speaking, the greatest plays are the ones that are done by working together as a team.
