Pink Floyd - Paintbox (Official Music Video)

Pink Floyd's "Paintbox'' written and sung by keyboardist Richard Wright. It was first released in 1967 as the B-side to the single "Apples and Oranges". The promotional film was shot for a Belgian television programme. In the video, the band is miming to the song on a bridge in Brussels. This is David Gilmour's first appearance on film with Pink Floyd.

Rick's songs are some of the most pretty and recognizable in the Floyd catalog IMO, along with Summer '68, See-Saw, Remember A Day & Burning Bridges. His tunes remind me of being in a dream and a day before innocence lost. Listen to Rick sing in Burning Bridges, just beautiful. Wright was the most underrated and over-looked member of the band. He was in charge of the Azimuth Co--ordinator after all, literally painting concert venues in quadraphonic bliss for everyone to enjoy. Respect!

I'd never heard melodic drums until I saw Nick Mason playing them on this video. He really makes them sing.

I have the Pink Floyd "Masters of Rock" LP, only released in England. For me, hearing "Paintbox" for the first time was a revelation: the subject matter, the jazz-minimalism of the piano, Wright's vocals, Nick Mason's drums....it all comes together. And the fade-out is just as groovy as "See Emily Play"'s. Glad I discovered these 'promo videos' on YouTube.
