Great video and list. But just want to point out that the mr2 shown in your video is the older generation 2, and not the Spyder which is generation 3.

FWIW on starions:

Especially for an 80s econo box- Theyre not exactly "light weight", they regularly weigh 3000+ pounds. Especially if were talking about the wide body, with bigger rims/tires, stock intercooler, ps, ac, power everything (which was pretty normal for them), etc. Theyre big ol "gt" cars more than theyre "sports cars". They were comfortable for their time, and a showcase of technology from mitsubishi. Even if you strip them down, theyre still quite heavy. Compare that to most 80s econoboxes weighed in the low-mid 2000s, theyre lugging around a good 4-600+ pounds on most of the competition for the time.

To go with that theyre also fairly limited for modification if thats your thing. Theres a few bolt ons you can do, but to do much beyond that takes a HUGE amount of investment. Their cylinder heads are fairly limited for flow, and theyre held back big time by their throttle body injection. You really need to upgrade that, and the fuel system, to see much with them.

That said

Theyve got a lot of neat bits- Independent suspension, all of them had 2 way mechanical LSDs from the factory, fairly beefy 5 speed transmissions and rear ends, all of them were turbo, all of the later ones were intercooled, all of them had flip up lights.

Definitely a neat car. Not the best performance, but super neat.

Also- Where are you getting suzuki cappuccinos or STIs for 4 grand from?

Yes. The Samari is far superior with either the j18a or j20a. Extremely capable off road.
