We are talking about 10 English customs and traditions

English customs and tradition
:

1. Queen (королева)
In Britain the Queen is the Head of State, but in fact she doesn't rule the country as she has no power.

2. Politeness (вежливость)
The English are naturally polite and they often say "Sorry", "Please" and "Thank you" with a smiling face, and they always try to arrive on time.

3. English home (английский дом)
The English are a nation of stay-at-homes. "There is no place like home" is a famous English saying.

4. Pets (домашние питомцы)
Britain is a nation of animal lovers. They have about five million dogs, almost as many cats, three million parrots and other cage birds, aquarium fish - and one million exotic pets such as reptiles.

5. Fireplaces (камины)
Englishmen are very fond of fireplaces, that's why many of them prefer the open fire to central heating.

6. Sports (спорт)
Sports play essential part in the life of Britain and it is a popular leisure activity.

7. Tea (чай)
The English are tea-drinkers. Seven cups of it wake you up in the morning, nine cups will put you to sleep at night.

8. Pubs (пабы)
Pubs are still a central part of British culture. Good conversation and good beer are two essential items provided by them.

9. Gardening (садоводство)
They like to talk about the best way of growing flowers, fruit or vegetables.

10. Talking about weather (говорить о погоде)
Talking about weather is the favourite topic for Englishmen.

The Monarch does in fact have power, not perhaps to make rules, but ALL acts of parliament must receive Royal Assent to become law. In effect she has the power of veto. This is commonly overlooked by those wishing to abolish the Monarchy. With no political or ideological predisposition, the Monarch is in fact our insurance policy against a despotic government.
