Banana ketchup was invented by a Filipina. Due to shortage of tomatoes, she found a way to use banana and vinegar and some other ingredients to capture the similar taste of a tomato ketchup

The banana ketchup doesn't surprises me at all, here in Guatemala some local brands use papaya (a very sweet, orange colored fruit) as the main ingredient for their ketchup, I'm not sure if it is bc there's a lot of papaya in the country or bc it helps with the sweetness of the ketchup, I personally prefer regular tomato sauce bc papayas are very sweet and ketchup with papaya turns out to be also very sweet and since papayas aren't red they use more colorant on the ketchup
