Tesla Model S Plaid Launch Event

Tesla invited us to join in the Plaid Model S Launch event at the Fremont Factory in California.

We had so much fun and live-streamed as much of the event as we could. During the event, we got to get up and close to the Plaid Model S and the Plaid Model X.

The best part of the event was without a doubt getting in a Plaid Model S and experiencing the acceleration and a hot lap around their test track.

This car is like no other car I have ever been in.

I think the reason why Tesla is not yet using the 4680 for the production of the Model S Plaid Plus is because they are reserving those batteries for the Cybertruck which will be manufactured in large quantity soon. But once they are able to produce enough 4680, then they will make the Plaid+ model available again.

6:00 “All the things happening in there making it want to expand” — like rotating at north of 25, 000 RPM. The carbon fiber overwrap is of the rotor, not the whole motor.

It isnt just new chemistry in the cells. It's a whole new pack configuration. Range stayed about the same because it's a smaller battery. It should have better efficiency than the old models. Also I think the heat pump may be upgraded from the model Y one too. They are battery constrained so kinda have to just go for "enough" range for most people.

Edit: Also the plaid animation while accelerating is awesome.

Did any of the Tesla team give deeper details on the steering technology? We know the yoke is standard, thought they may do a steer by wire system so steering at low speeds so you do not have to do a 1.5 turn to do a u-turn or park. They did not say anything during the event.
