How a Dyson Swarm Might Work

Could we ever harness our power from a shell of solar collectors positioned around a star? It's called a Dyson Sphere, and was theorized by physicist Freeman Dyson in 1960. Dyson predicted we could detect alien civilizations using this technology by looking for the heat signatures they would emit.

Music was too loud, otherwise decent vid

The music should be deathmetal so I would have to guess what the video is about.

Just throwing this out there, but is solar radiation going to cause these mirrors to degrade? I imagine people would want the ability to maintain these mirrors in some way.

Could this be used to focus light into a laser like a uber version of Icarus from Die Another Day

The music was awful. Also, Dyson swarms don't use satellites; they use statites that *do not* orbit the star but instead hover over a single place using light pressure. Also, why would we need 1100 years to do this? It's possible with today's tech. You should probably get some scientists over there instead of journalism majors.

Could also power a starship by transmitting it's propulsive energy to it at the speed of light. Such a starship need only carry enough fuel for braking and maneuvering. Such a ship in the fiction work 'The Flight of the Dragonfly" (Robert L. Forward)[1] also used this energy to decelerate.
