When he's with her he looks miserable, and emotionally separated from her. He looks grumpy, sometimes vacant, irritated, , he looks oppressed, depressed, repressed, often directionless. That's what happens when you let someone else control your life, (what, where and when to speak and write, where and when to position yourself, stand, and sit). When you don't exercise your own choices in your life you become a hanger-on, or a toy for your controller to play with, and all the while you're waiting for some sign that your narc controller really loves you - you're waiting for whatever crumbs are thrown in your direction. That is not living your "best life".
