In Chile, more than 2,000 children are now orphaned, from one or both parents, as the COVID-19 crisis wreaks havoc. The orphans are living in homes for abandoned children, and their fate is still unclear.
Congress is proposing a bill to give them a long-term pension to allow family members or others to take charge of the youngsters.

Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports from Valparaiso, Chile.

I wish I could help these children stop suffering! They need affection and psichological support and financial support! 🤗🥰❤ May all you suffering get what you need! My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

And don't think this isn't happening in the US. I am pretty sure it is.

I feel like this is going to become more of an issue as we go on. Vaccination rates in lower income countries are going to have a huge uptick in orphaned children. This video brought the whole situation to my attention. Just another disaster spurred on by COVID. I hope we can figure out a way to accommodate everyone as quickly as possible.

So sad.
It's the only developed country in Latin America [Because it's a majority white country].

God bless these kids. Stay safe.
