Remember the sensor is covered in a sheet of glass, you're not cleaning the actual sensor itself.

One of the things that I learned pretty quickly when I got seriously into photography is that 1) dust will get onto your sensor, no matter how hard you try. Sorry. 2) wet cleaning, and sensor cleaning in general, is nowhere near as scary as people make it out to be. Once you get the hang of it, and learn the secret two swab method (one very wet, one dry), you can and will have very clean sensors for the rest of your life. It's an excellent skill to have, and saves you heaps of money on sensor cleaning from camera shops (who are not always reliable I might add. The only sensor scratch I've ever had was from a "professional" cleaner)

You dotn clean the sensor, you just clean the protective glass in front of it. It's not nearly as fragile as people want to make you believe. Sensor cleaning kits are still easy and convenient, leaving no streaks and fitting the size of the sensor well, so they are worh it, just dont be too afraid of damaging anything.

Three things:

1 - Your sensor is covered with 2-3mm (depending of your body and brand) glass layer protecting from reflections, UV and IR (not scratchless – do not ever use a brush, even a a toothbrush on it), coton swab won’t do any damage

2 - Always use the « clean mode » on your camera to lock your IBIS stabilization system and don’t push to hard and insist too much on it or you’ll risk damaging it

3 - Those « special liquids » are just a mix of isopropyl alcohol (99% one – don’t use modified alcohol you find in pharmacy) and this will help you as a solvant, break oils and will evaporate quickly enough to avoid leaving marks after you removed the oils of course. Don’t just smudge the same wipe over and over on the same spots or you’ll have an oily sensor where dust will stick

i just spit on it and rub the dirt into the sensor

On a old camera I got sweat on it in a sweaty room some how, I cleaned it with my lens cloth that night and the following day I cleaned it properly with the fluid and swab, it was perfect! Not a single mark or issue.

The glass infront of the sensor is just like the front of your lens!

Just clean it, no issues!

Don’t worry bro. Not that sensitive IRL. Don’t go wild, but it’s not fragile.

LOL - get an Olympus/OM System camera with the only self clean system that actually works! I've *never* had to clean a sensor ever in over 20 years with my DSLRs or mirrorless bodies

Talk about a yapper it’s glass and I’ve been using paper town and water for years on my A7s not a single issue

I remember a bit sodium hypocloride spray with a camera scrubber for that deep clean feel !

It's not fragile at all, the sensor on mirrorless cameras almost always has a lens covering which protects it, and by design is made to be cleaned.

I once watched a girl from the photography class use her shirt to clean the sensor at a football game.

Is it not possible to have a produce unit of camera were the new model has a attachable protective glass before that sensor. It doubles the protection.. specialy when changing special lenses.. . Hmm glass that compact, scracth free, so when cleaning only the detached protective glass will be wiped with fiber and cleaning formlas.. i realy think camera engineers are just making their product inconvenient for pro photographers especially nonpro but enthusiasts

Bro i dropped my eos r6mk2 very hard that the back element of the lens brake loss and hit the sensor
It came out without a scratch
And if you think the back element didn't touch the sensor
No it was lying on it

Bought a Sony from a sketchy flea market, had a massive greasy fingerprint on the sensor. Used IPA and no-lint cloth, bingo bango. Sensor cleaning kits is a scam, expensive as hell for what you get.
