Schipperke Goes Absolutely Crazy Over New Toy

Protective schipperke dog, Kody, is really protective over his new animal friend Mr. Racoon.

Don’t tolerate that snapping behavior. Try to get the toy away by a snack he likes, then praise him for releasing the toy. He will learn. Right then you are teaching him that it is ok to bite people.

This is a stupid way to challenge the dog. It will make the possessive behaviour worse and you risk a bite. Then it will be too late, the dog learns that thisis a good defensive strategy. Never pretend to take away an object that is valuable to the dog. If you want to take it away, offer something more interesting (like a treat or anothe new toy), as soon as the dog is distracted be fast to take away the object and hide it.
