Goodbye Elantra, hello i30 Sedan! Hyundai are introducing an all-new small sedan in the form of the 2021 Hyundai i30 Sedan. Designed to be a sibling to the popular i30 hatchback or Elantra Sport as it's known in North America, the i30 sedan packs a new platform, new engines, a bold new triangle-themed design and a totally new interior. Today, we're taking a detailed first look with Tom at Hyundai's Australian headquarters in Sydney. Would you consider an i30 sedan over a Mazda 3 sedan or Toyota Corolla?

What do you think of the new Hyundai i30 Sedan? Do you like the new design language? Is it all a bit much? How about the new cabin? Is Hyundai moving upmarket? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

Covers the exterior, interior, cargo space and engines of the Hyundai i30 Sedan 2021 / 2021 Hyundai Elantra.

Idk man, I feel like a lot of the newer generation of Hyundais look really strange, like the exterior designers are trying too hard to make them stand out.

I’m a tech guy, but I feel like I’m the only one who has an objection to having two rectangle LCD screens to represent the instrumentation and infotainment!? I’m not some traditionalist who only believes in analogue gauges either, but I don’t think gluing iPad-like LCDs to a car is progression... in fact, if feels like an awkward in between step. Audi originally nailed it with a full LCD instrument cluster, sitting behind a curved and styled facia. But since then, we seemed to have gone backwards with cars like this, and the new A-Class

Good to see some sharpish new styling coming together in this vehicle category. Surprising space, too. Thx Tom, very informative - & congrats on +50K subscribers, btw!

I think the new Elantra design is outstandingly beautiful. That back kind of reminds me about Audi A7's back design, which I like very much. Very bold, very sharp, very modern. Could be the most luxurious car of that price on the entire market. The only thing I have doubts about is the CVT transmission. I would have opted for the 160CP engine 7 or 8 speed DCT clutch, but remains to be seen how well it handles. Also love the wide console, ambiental lighting, very modern. Even the shifter knob looks good. I think the white variant of the interior is what makes it really stand out, and people should search about that one. The black only interior looks too basic and a bit cheap, having white automatically rises the premium-ness of the car for me. I am saving money for this car.

This particular car as mentioned is a pre production mule only. It can't be sold locally. It will be shipped back to Hyundai's Ulsan HQ. Our versions are likely to be detuned to run on 91, as korean versions only use PULP. The interior will have some mods made before the vehicles are sold here. But Hyundai's Premium Link as well as the SmartSense Safety package are likely to be standard across the range. The infotainment will have the ability to expand connectivity here for future services, though DAB, Nav, AA/Carplay etc will likely be standard in all versions .

You had me sold by having Ed Sheeran review this car. Cheers 👍

At 5:38 is reported that it has 16.7 cubic feet or 474 liters of trunk or boot space. This is not a SEDAN TOP 500, which belongs to the select group of those whow have more than 500 liters of capacity in its trunk or boot, but it is bigger than the trunk of the MOST SELLING CAR IN THE WORLD for more than 10 years, the Toyota Corolla with 470 liters of capacity.

Unlike outgoing i30's and Cerato, this new i30 Sedan has an interior that can compete with the much more expensive, new Mazda 3.

I wish you had done a full walk around of the car.

Great interior.. But the exterior it's a bit too overboard. The front and rear design doesn't jive more like 2 car design language . Should make it simple.

Good review but you didnt mention the new IVT (CVT) that would be replacing the normal 6 speed auto in the non-sport and non N line.

Ummmm, not sure if like. Intersecting angle lines all over maybe not good, may age quickly. Definitely a model one would have to view in the flesh me thinks.
New engine sounds possibly very interesting. MPI is a blessing .Would this be the engine that only Hyundai have managed to design and build with a mechanical variable valve duration technology?
Yeah, grab handle in and around center console area, not really a fan of that. Passengers may find that a no go.

I remember when it was just the 'LANTRA' in the 90's (The Elantra was initially marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model. This gave rise to a disagreement with other motor manufacturers, and the name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001 (except in South Korea).

Really not a fan of the connected displays for the infotainment and gauge cluster. That huge bezel in between them looks ungainly, but overall it's a nice looker.

Hopefully it'll sell well enough that I'll see one on the road; since I've not seen one current generation Elantra on the road.

Imagine the cost of replacing all those fancy body pieces! Hyundai parts costs seem to be sky high! I just bought one and the cost for some parts SHOCKED

Wow, I was not expecting that interior! Very nice! Because this is basically the US elantra, won't the i30 hatch be a weird disconnect in the i30 line?
