Kiriakou spent the first eight years of his career in the CIA as a Middle East analyst specializing on Iraq. He maintained a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance. He learned Arabic and was assigned to the American Embassy in Bahrain. He eventually became CIA's Directorate of Operations. He became a counter-terrorism operations officer and worked on Eurocommunist terrorism.

Kiriakou was named Chief of Counterterrorist Operations in Pakistan. In that position, he led a series of military raids on al-Qaeda safehouses, capturing dozens of al-Qaeda fighters. Kiriakou claims to have led a raid that captured Abu Zubaydah, then thought to be al-Qaeda’s third-ranking official. After all of this John Kiriakou was sent to prison, serving a thirty-month sentence for exposing the CIA’s use of torture on Al Qaeda prisoners.

"Doing Time Like A Spy" is Kiriakou's memoir of his time in prison and is at once a critical journal of daily prison life and an intimate commentary on the federal prison system.

John Kiriakou is a columnist with Reader Supported News. He was a CIA analyst and case officer, senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, counterterrorism consultant for ABC News, and author.

Brian Ross is an investigative journalist who serves as Chief Investigative Correspondent for ABC News. He reports for ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, Nightline, Good Morning America, 20/20, and ABC News Radio. Ross' investigative reports have often covered government corruption.

Having the courage of our convictions is no easy thing. It’s all the more difficult when it costs us our freedom. This man, in my opinion, is a hero.

When I was 13 years old, I had an eighth-grade history teacher who said, “If you ever feel the desire to serve your country as an employee of the United States Government, do such an amazing job that you spend much of your life in prison.”

The irony is that Brian Ross is the idiot that started this whole debacle in the first place with his "press trick" of telling John to come down to tell his side of the story. John may not hold Brian responsible, but it pisses me off!

Now my own country is in danger and I see you as the type of man that will fight and has fought for the survival of our nation and Constitution. Thank you for your truth telling and dedication and sacrifice. You John are my newest hero. I will do my best to exemplify your best characteristics.

Not to disparage the man, I have listened to many interviews with him, and greatly enjoyed them, but John is a self confessed master manipulator. So, take what he says with a grain of salt. He has the talent to make you like him and to make you believe what he wants you to believe. He was a top CIA Case Officer for a reason. Having said that, I believe John is a true patriot and I thank him for his bravery.

I think John Ku. should stand for the Presidential nomination and then things will change drastically towards a more humane society.

“I’m shocked at how broken our prison system is.” It’s not broken John. It was designed that way.

Yeah maybe the European continent but in the UK prison is brutal as I spent 4 years as a prisoner in Northern Ireland from 1978 -1982. Miserable conditions but you can get your degree from the open university. That’s the only thing you can do
