Thanks for watching and I hope you subscribe! I’m still figuring out this whole YouTube thing though, so comment if there are questions you have + videos you might be curious to watch!

I’m trying to post daily vlogs and have this be a place where we can talk more deeply about topics that short-form content can’t encapsulate in just 30-90 seconds.

Say hi on social @nadyaokamoto

Listen to Tigress, my podcast!

Nothing innappropiate or sexual about periods. It is definitely something we should educate our children on once they're old enough to be taught about the human anatomy.

Even if you're not going to go into extreme detail about the process, at least explain the basics so that we can create a more empathetic attitude towards it. Also gonna make sure any sons I have won't be too fragile to buy their girlfriends tampons. Can't tell you how many times I've picked up a box of tampons on my way home from work for my lady.

My mum taught me about periods so young that I don't even remember learning, I got mine when I was 9 and already knew everything, I got it before they spoke about it at school

not telling kids about periods leads to them thinking they're dying when they get their first one, especially if they get it early.

If my kids ask a question I'll answer it in an age appropriate way

I can't tell you how many girls thought they were dying when they had their first period. Nor how many adult men think women can hold in their menstrual blood among other absurd misunderstandings. If you think education is scary then you haven't had enough. A child with a deeper understanding of their body isn't being sexualized. It's like telling a girl not to wipe herself after peeing because you're afraid she'll lose her innocence. Witholding information is harmful. You can keep it age appropriate but the human body shouldn't be such a mystery.

My mother always talked openly about it around me when i was little but not to me, she didn’t try and hide it she just didn’t talk to me about it till i was 10-11.

Even as an adult, my adoptive mom who was a nurse gets so angry at me if I bring up I have cramps or bleeding. It’s sad I’m 40 years old and can’t even express my pain or if I’m having a heavy period etc. And yet my brothers wife comes over starts talking about her periods in very graphic ways and talking about other female parts sexually right in front of my dad and my adoptive mom has no issues with her talking about this. It’s one sided.

To all the fathers out there, please be open with you children about periods.

There should be nothing wrong with talking about periods.

I wish I could talk to my adoptive mom about this seeing how she was a school nurse but she goes completely nuts and says not to talk about it in front of my father. It’s very shameful when I can’t say anything but my brothers wife.

Ever since I’ve had my period, I’ve been afraid of bleeding through my clothes even still now at 40.

Girls don’t be ashamed. Find someone who will talk to you about it even if it’s not your parents.

Periods are natural. We get them. It’s nothing to be scared or ashamed about.

I’ve seen someone say that they were just going to wait until their child got their period to tell them what it is….. that is insane. I feel bad for their future children.

Literally the only guy that'll go out to the store with me when I need to buy pads is my dad. My uncle would literally hide at the very back of the parking lot if my sisters or my cousins needed pads or tampons and all their boyfriends get super awkward and try to ignore any and all conversations about periods. Men need to do better about it, it creates so much ignorance and they spread so much misinformation about it when they have no clue what it's really like when they constantly avoid it.

I remember when I got mine. I was 9. The only warning I was giving was that I was going to bleed out of my butt from my mom and I started sobbing😬 Even then, she didn’t elaborate, didn’t tell me it had a name or anything. Don’t wait too late to educate. I still knew almost nothing until I was 12 and it was from the internet, not school, not my parents.

My youngest brother immediately kisses my head if I say I started my period bc he knows that means I have a headache 😭 He's so freaking cute. I refuse to let him or my other brother be ignorant jerks about periods. We all discuss nearly every aspect of it in age appropriate ways

THIS EXACTLY. We are taught so much about male anatomy and puberty and how to deal with it, as a man, I was never taught half of the shit that everyone should know. There's nothing wrong with it, I'm tired of this idea that everything to do with sexual organs are deeply wrong or gross or disgusting in general. We need to talk about all of our bodily functions. This stuff is normal.

Truly. It sucks being so ashamed of a natural body function. My husband is way WAY cooler about my period and period blood than I am. And he doesn't understand why I'm so grossed out and ashamed. Oh.... And I'm a CNA turned RN. I'm FINE dealing with normal bodily functions, but I still have this misogynistic (?) view of menses, especially my own.

I totally agree but it would be nice to put a warning before you show the blood🩸. Not because it's period blood but because it's blood in general. Some people (including me) get dizzy when seeing blood. Even my period blood freaks me out sometimes. Anyways love your content
