That bit about Tram Aqua and Magma being originally just one team instantly reminded me of that one infamous line from ORAS where one of their Grunts tells the player that Archie and Maxie in the past were in the same team.

“The adventure should be about walking, not running”

Interestingly the reason Gardevoir is 50% male is because the Japanese name is Sirkknight implying that due to cultural differences didn’t realize that the Pokémon was considered feminine in many parts of the world….
This is likely why Gallade was introduced in Gen 4… to introduce what was probably something similar to their orinigal intention for the line

Loved having 2 evil teams in hoenn. 2 teams with different pokemon makes both games worth playing thorough.

Yeah Sugimori's take on the running shoes shows that he was thinking of the game as a linear experience. But since its a large interconnected map that you explore and backtrack in, the running shoes are a priceless addition.

The Blaziken thing makes perfect sense when you consider the Blaziken+Latias design fusion

I learned that Team Magma and Team Aqua were originally meant to be one team. My favorite part about the Hoenn games were that we had two teams in Team Magma and Team Aqua in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire it added more variety to version exclusives in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Another fact: The Pokémon Anime had a very late design influence in Hoenn.
Notable characters that used regular Overworld Sprites in the base games had their new models for ORAS build based on their Anime Appearence.
Devon President Stone and Lanette are examples I realized myself there are probably more.

Here’s a fact: In the anime, Maxie and the Unova Pokédex both had the same English voice actor!

Here’s some Swalot enlightenment

While Gulpin is shaped like a human stomach, Swalot specifically is supposed to be some kind of sack. His little moustache is meant to be two ropes and the kissy lips are the part of a tied bag where the knot is tightened. He’s not just a stomach, he’s literally a poison filled bag.

(14:30) If Masters EX is cannon then...

"A long time ago, my friend Briney and I were trying to become the greatest sailors in the world."
"We dreamed of mastering every sea route there is."
"But then, one day, when I was out to sea, my ship got caught in a storm."
"Somehow, I avoided sinking, but I was adrift for days after that."
"I had used up the last of my food and water, so I thought I was done for, but then a Dragonite appeared in the sky."
"That Dragonite led me all the way back to shore."

He makes other references to this in EX, but there is nothing in the mainline games

Ken Sugimori and his art are integral to what pokemon was and is now. But I have to vehemently disagree with him on the running shoes. An adventure is fast, exciting, filled with thrills, chills, fun and friends. A walk can be fun but is more like sight seeing than an adventure. You walk to the start of the adventure, not through it.

Gen3 is still probably my favorite Gen. I started at the beginning with Gen1 but I guess I always felt like the limitations of the game boy held the games back. I loved the concept but was always less enthusiastic about the execution. Then when the Gen3 games came out, after over a year of being unsure if I wanted to come back to Pokémon, I fell completely in love with Sapphire. It was everything I wanted from a Pokémon game and felt that RBGS didn’t quite provide. And the remakes were such a massive upgrade on what was already great.
