This video reminds me of the meme with the crowd of people, “who wants to backup systems?” *all hands go up*
Second panel:
“Who wants to test restore from backups?” *no hands go up*

Thank you Tom.
I set up a new SSH key a week ago for pfSense to copy a Let's Encrypt certificate to a Synology box upon renewal and had completely missed the part about the encryption key updating when creating new SSH keys. So again thanks a lot for likely having saved my butt sometime in the future :)

Saw this video a few days too late... spent a whole day recovering the config file from a dying SSD because I had no backup... this one checkbox would have saved me about 10h of work... wonderful new years present.

These videos are great. Your videos inspired me a netgate 2100 so that I could start learning pfsense with a preconfigured system. I'm still a total beginner, but I found your videos to be the best resource so far. Thanks again.

Spot on timing! Saw this video and made backup automated. Two days later the pfsense server had catastrophic hardware failure 😅

Great timing as I just had to reinstall mine and start over as the last backup I could find was over a year old. Oops. However, watching all your tutorials this time around it works way better than before.

Backups are stored offsite on Netgate’s server by the way. For those who didn’t know. It’s great feature but I wish they could have given us the ability to save them on local NAS instead. I personally have always done them manually as I make major config changes and before version upgrade.

Just thanks for all the knowledge you share.👍👍

Awesome feature that I didn't even know about. I will look at implementing this with my clients.

11:25 could you make a video about lack of backup procedures in companies and how to fix it?

at 9:58 in the video text has been added that says 'You need to copy/paste/edit/save this to an XML file & upload via restore if you want to apply changes' What does this mean? I though this video on backups was to show you how to automatically backup the config, then in the case of a dead system you could build another default install then 'restore' with a couple of clicks just by knowing the encryption key and password, and its all done in the gui.. so why the need to '..copy/paste/edit/save this to an XML file & upload via restore..' ?

Does it make sense to enable ACB if your pfsense machine is virtualized and you already backup the vm?

i suppose if my system crashes everything will be lost even the backups. is there any automated way to copy them somewhere else?

The most money I ever made at one time as a consultant was recovery from a disk failure where it was discovered that the backups had been corrupted.

Tom, do you have a video on how to replace a Ubiquity switch if one fails with the same model and keep all settings for vlan, port settings, … ? Thank you for making these videos!

Awesome video, very nice and clear.
But do you remember ytti/oxidized ? Yeah it can also backup your pfSense box without cloud service.

nice video 👍🏻, can you make a tutorial video like you did in 2020 with setting up pfsense 2.4, but with the new one Version 2.6 what's new in the platform what change etc, in 2022 video ... thank you.. from Colombia South America 👍🏻👍🏻

I'd use Auto Config Backup if I could host the backup on premise. The better way would be to store the backup in a Git repository, OPNsense has got a module for this. Maybe I'm trying to adopt it to pfSense 🤓

How you make the system back up once it see a change? That would be a great thing if it just back up once a change as been made...
