Zelensky said Ukraine needs 'real projects' for post-war reconstruction

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday (June 21) it was necessary to move towards real projects for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Addressing the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London via video link Zelensky said he wanted to see "concrete things" from them and that Ukraine would present those needs to donors at the conference.
The Ukrainian president said the more targeted help in "real projects" would spur growth in an economy he said had moved far away from the oligarchic model of Ukraine's immediate post-Soviet era.
Britain, the United States and the European Union on Wednesday pledged billions of dollars in additional help to Ukraine which said it needed the extra capital as well as commitments to specific projects to not only recover but to develop into a powerful member of the Western world.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told the conference Kyiv was hoping for more than $6 billion from the event.
After nearly 16 months of Russia's war on Ukraine which has destroyed homes, hospitals and other critical infrastructure, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak opened the conference with an appeal to businesses and governments to do more to help rebuild.
The West has already given Ukraine tens of billions of dollars worth of military equipment, including hundreds of tanks and armored vehicles that form the core of the force it is set to unleash in its counter-offensive.
