Getting a secondary drive is one of the best computer investments I've made. I always keep music, images, documents and videos on the second drive. This makes it easy if I want to distro hop on bare metal or if I screw something up that I feel I can't fix the proper way.

Man, I missed the premier cause I thought it was a half hour after it really was. DT, you one of the few people who can captivate my attention for the entirety of a lengthy video. Keep up the great work!

DT, this podcast is really good for listening to in the car! Good content. Now here a hint on a niche: emacs. In YouTube today there are 0 videos talking about emacs 27.1 launch. Emacs content may not generate many views, but I am sure it will be a very frightful crowd. Thanks again!

Another really great broadcast here DT. Man! You're becoming a real professional at this. I am a retiree on a fixed income but you're making it real hard not to become a Patreon supporter. You keep this kind of thing up and I'll have to so please screw up a little. That would help. :)

One thing I do whenever I've installed something new on my system OS wise, I have a shelf full of old hard drives ranging from SAS to SATA to EIDE to SCSI. I will always grab a hard drive that I know will run in my machine, swap it out with the one that's running my current OS on it and install the new OS on that. This way, if I don't like the new OS, I can always go back and not lose a single thing. If I like the New OS, I can hook up that old drive, copy what I need over to the new system and I instantly have a backup of what's on my new system. I've been doing that since I built my first PC in 1987. I've never lost a thing... knock on wood!

On backups, I recommend timeshift. I use timeshift to back up my system including my /home to an external USB drive formatted with btrfs with on the fly zstd compression. I back up automatically once a week and also manually right before any update. I set it to keep the last 5 auto backups plus all manual backups until I delete them myself. After initial backup subsequent backups take less than 10 minutes. It's great if you have a bad update or if you accidentally delete something you didn't mean to. Besides being able to restore specific backups you can also access the files in your file manager and just grab the ones you need to replace or recover.

Hey DT, liked the backup bit. How about a video dedicated to backup: partitioning, scheme's, timeshift, rsync opinions?

DT your intro sounded like a 60's pirate radio rock on

Mozilla losing developers is so sad to see. I'd hate to see Firefox and Mozilla die out.

Part of Firefox's demise is from Google practices of constantly pushing Chrome when you use other browsers - which is a shitty business practice. And iOS locking everyone to Webkit render engines. That erases mind-share for other rendering engines. Its all a bit nasty.

Hey DT. Will you ever do a video on backing up dot files? I understand the reason to but I can't ever seem to get it to work when I pull them back down on a fresh install.

- Vim user being jealous

- I'm sad for Firefox too 😑. Been a FF user since day one. FOSS and about:config all the way! 💪💪

- HBO 🙅‍♂️ (didn't have an account, won't do on those terms!)
