I am a retired federal government engineer who worked with contractors a lot. Any appearance of impropriety was potentially prosecuted. One government engineer who was much admired by his peers was fired because he influenced the process by which a contract was awarded because he knew that the likely winner would have done a poor job and knew how to play the government contract awarding process. IOW, he risked his career to try to save the mission. He lost his retirement, etc. To say that there is selective prosecution through the government would be a severe understatement.

I lived through a version of this.
My then-husband started abusing opiates, I couldn't stop him so I called his wealthy parents for help. They paid for his divorce attorney! They covered up his addiction for years (he also became an alcoholic!), and they were showing him off at church on Sundays until one day he showed up at church falling down stoned. Then they decided to "tough love" him and he died of an overdose. I suspect he committed suicide.
Like Dr. Peterson I've always wondered if showing up at church stoned was revenge, or an attempt to expose his parents' lies.
When spoiled brats become adult-aged, do they resent not being allowed to grow up even though they live in luxury?
