Communicating with Autism, Apraxia, and Proloquo2go
Показать описание
My son Cooper was diagnosed was nonverbal, severe autism at age 3. At that time, he had no spoken words at all. At age 4, we were told he would never speak verbally, and we turned our focus to other forms of communication like sign language, typing/spelling, and assistive technology. I remember in those early days, so desperately wanting to see nonverbal autism in an older child or even a young adult.
Cooper is fully capable of communication, but apraxia of speech is the reason he struggles to make so many sounds that are needed to speak. That doesn't mean he will never speak so we continue to work on it with him, along with other forms of communication. If you have any questions about comorbidities, nonverbal autism, or whatever let me know. We can chat about it in the comments. That's what we are here for.
Above all, Cooper is so happy and I hope you see the joy and wonder he brings to this world.
He is using proloquo2go on in his iPad in this video. We worked with Talk to Me Technologies to obtain his device.
