How to Turn OFF SCR? (Anode Current Interruption and Forced Commutation)

In this lecture we will discuss the most basic methods to turn off silicon controlled rectifier. The two methods are
1. Anode current interruption
2. Forced Commutation

In the first method we bring down the anode current of SCR below the holding current by connecting a switch in series or parallel to SCR.

In the second method we use some external circuit to run the current opposite to anode current. Hence the resultant current goes below the holding current
