Advice to the young from an old lady:
Kids, once you're out of school, leave the head games behind! No one enjoys them. They do nothing but stir up stupid drama. Although they are good for showing others that you're immature and not ready for a real relationship if you pull that sort of thing.
These "tests" are stupid, and a sure fire way to lose a good thing.

I don’t think cake OP would have been an AH even if he’d sold the recipe for a ton of money. I don’t currently have a partner, but if I have another at some point it’s likely that they’ll outlive me, and I’d be thrilled if they managed to sell something of mine and make some money, whether it’s a recipe or a piece of writing or a sewing pattern or anything else I created. Money’s great. As long as you don’t worship it or obsess over it, it improves lives, whether it’s lots of money, or enough to buy a nice new pair of shoes. I’d love to know I can still improve my partner’s life from beyond the veil.
