The great thing about their argument is that you understand it on both sides. We know that Nancy is right about their colleagues and is a good person for pursuing the case, but Jonathan also has a valid point. Financial security is important for his family. Their lives are a constant struggle and money doesn't come easy to them. Pointing this out doesn't mean that he doubts Nancy. He's simply thinking about the future. He's being responsible.

What I love about this is that despite their arguments they didn’t once decide to break up. It’s a more realistic portrayal of how healthy couples function

Nancy’s privilege:
-her dad is rich
Nancy’s weakness:
-she’s a woman and people in this decade didn’t take woman seriously.

Jonathan’s privilege:
-he’s a man
Jonathan’s weakness:
-he’s poor.

I love this scene. They did such a good job of making you see both sides. Nancy's privilege, Jonathan not experiencing sexism etc. Nancy was obviously right about the guys in the office and the rats and everything, and Jonathan should have stuck up for her. But at the same time, she IS just an intern, and going off pretending to be a reporter of course was going to get her fired. So she should have just done it on her own, not dragged him into it since he actually needed the job. Also "Oliver Twist routine" was a really fucked up thing to say.

I understand both sides, but I can relate to Jonathan more. I once lost a job, and had a shit ton of loans and bills to pay. It was one of the darkest moments in my life that I once considered ending everything. Thankfully, I managed to get out of that situation, and I'm still here writing this comment.

Honestly both of them were right in different ways.

Charlie Heaton as usual knocks this scene out of the park. I really hate how they make Jonathan Nancy's sidekick this whole season. He's a better character being held down, I'm actually happy that they separated those two so Jonathan can grow on his own with his other family in season 4.

Okay, but can we talk about the acting. He’s like really good

I get where she’s coming from but Nancy should’ve thought more about johnathan since he picks up where his dad falls short.

I gotta side with Jonathan. He’s being more realistic and Nancy is just caring about herself more.

“you don’t know what it’s like” that line hit me so hard like a reality check for women, nancy is just another case of the many cases of harassment and sexism not being taken seriously by people who never have experienced it and probably never will :(

I don't understand why people are blaming Nancy anymore. I watched the previous episode again some days ago and Nancy clearly told Jonathan "if you don't want to come with me don't come" and Jonathan decided to come with her

The scene that made me a fan of Johnathan.

0:06 I love how Jonathan was shocked after Nancy said “I think Tom is on drugs”

The bad part about season 3 is that their storyline was completely based solely on Nancy, and once they argued, he didn't appear for the whole episode! Jonathan deserves so much better storylines and plots, the series is almost over and he was paid dust all over again

That tearful look in their eyes that occurs at the end of the video gets me 😥. As much as how frustrated they were reacting towards each other because Nancy wasn't thinking straight about the consequences, but they both seem to have showed some regret about having that argument but couldn't express their regrets in words.

Im on Jonathan’s side

His life isn’t exactly financially stable as he and joyce have to struggle to make ends meet while nancy has two working parents that provide for her and her family

It was wrong for those guys at the workplace to continuously harass her but this argument wasn’t about that it was about the fact that Jonathan was right about how pursuing the story would get them fired.

Jonothan has a point, Nancy comes from a well off upper middle class family in a big house with their own bedrooms, parents own modern fancy cars, their station wagon was new and expensive at the time, and they don't have to worry much about money, while Jonothan comes from a working class, below poverty line family with a single mother raising 2 sons on her own, and lives in a run down 1 floor house, and drive outdated cars at the time, Jon's rusty aging 1970 Ford Galaxie and Joyce's 1975 Pinto. Of course this job meant alot to Jonothan so that he could get out of poverty and be able to get his family a better life that he never got to have.

It's the typical class conflict here, Nancy's privileged upbringing, clashes with Jonothans unprivileged upbringing.

In Nancy's defense, she did experience classic toxic sexism in the workplace and that would cause major issues, especially her being a woman in the office, so I understand her upset and frustration.
