It’s sad those that left his lectures were probably the ones that needed it most. To challenge one’s beliefs in a classroom; isn’t that the reason why the student went to university?

I was a class clown in grade school and hs but not at all in college. There's just no place for it nor was there any desire to misbehave. Never heard of such a thing in college.

Students need to be reminded that they're actually students and not consumers. They firmly believe they can act like consumers now.

Unfortunately in the college system today, there are a lot of professors who are not worth the money they are paid and should have never been professors. They are rude, throw everything on the board, don’t actually teach, aren’t available for office hours, answer questions horribly, contradict themselves and then have a fit when it comes to test time and no one understands the material.

Then you have the absolutely amazing ones who are thoughtful, explain things in 3 different ways so that every learning type gets what they need, is always available to help and are just generally wonderful teachers. I wish the students had more of a say when it comes to the professors.

Requiring respect should be for all situations where adults interact, not just university lectures. That is the bare minimum. If you can't, you will not go far because no one will want to work w/ you.

That's how it should be. I would ask tough questions in college, but I was never disrespectful to my professors. Upon getting my masters, I taught government to adults in the evening and they came to learn because they wanted to. No-one was forcing them to be there.

Being firm, leading your class, setting fair rules, showing respect for a student participating, sharing knowledge, expecting the best from your class.... Students will respond positively. You genuinely care for them, they will know that.
