I saw a useful perspective on language around ths issue in a food policy from, I think, Oregon in the US. They consistently adopted using 'wasted food' rather than 'food waste' to describe what is going on. They realised that using a verb to describe an action was much more powerful than using a noun to describe a static thing - with a verb there is responsibility and a focus for change while a noun describes something that exists and can lead us to be complacent about its inevitability. 'Wasting food' is something we can stop doing. 'Food waste' is a huge mountain to dispose of. Might WRAP consider a change of language too?
