Rick Beato is disgustingly talented... I love him!

Yep, Beato is right...9 songwriters/producers who can NOT come up with something original is criminal but, the world will still eat it up and hopefully, ToTo will get their cut.

Bieber isn’t even worthy of using Toto’s porta potty 🚽 let alone one of their greatest songs.

I think it's time that we (TOTO fans) crowd funded them to take these crooks on, they need a little help from there friends. There are about nine writers accredited to have written this blatant rip off of the chords and melody. You never know with the money they could receive they could record us another TOTO allbum when they are ready. All the best to you and the best band in the world.

As Joe Williams said, the problem can show up when a fan of the artist who's stealing gets a chance to listen to the original, and then complains about it. This happened in the album cover of one of the original Grand Funk Railroad albums, which was a double live album(to showcase their strength, which was live performances). In the middle of the record cover, which held 2 LPs, there were photos of the band, and some live photos, and some tickets, and some reviews, and some fan letters. One of the songs was a cover of a song, "Inside Looking Out, " a song By Eric Burdon and the Animals. The fan wrote that "I heard the Animals did a copy of one of your songs, and they really butchered it; could you sue them?"
This is when I think a problem could arise, and why Joe said he had people looking into it. As Luke and Joe bith told John, the songs are out there, in the air - so to speak - and there's always a chance that they can be copied inadvertently. Look into what George Harrison thought about being sued for his big hit single, "My Sweet Lord, " a HUGE hit in the early 1970s, which he - probably inadvertently - copied from an old pop record called "He's So Fine, " by The Chiffons. He lost that lawsuit, and had to pay them millions.
The purpose of having 9(or more) songwriters is to get around this if they have to. It's a shame that there's enough negativity around in the music industry these days; I'm sure that it keeps some talented people with fine music from daring to try to share it with others, because of all the "Rip-off artists" out there, and the lawyers who will work for anybody, good or bad, that pays them well.

Absolutely they did. Didn´t even bother to change the tonality, The melody line is outrageously identical, hands down the most important section in JB´s song. Honestly, I think they did on purpose by blending into the melody some specific elements in order to disguise such an abhorrent plagiarism, particulary those bars in which he sings "I gotta tell ya" / "ever done" and the extreme use of autotune in certain words "looking back".

Great video John!I, too had watched Beato's "let's get down to the nitty gritty" of BIEBER possibly plagiarizing TOTO'S song. I Love ROCK HISTORY MUSIC because you always go straight to the source[ hence Joe Williams & Steve Lukather].You get answers based on facts/truth rather than idle gossip circulating on social media and making the rounds in the music industry.I'm Gen X ~1965 and I believe the song from Bieber's camp was ....taken from TOTO.
Hopefully David & Joe get this resolved the easy way, but methinks I smell a lawsuit.ROCK FORWARD TOTO!

Just a thought: Beato talked about Bieber's writers asking himself if they might have heard music or know 80s bands well. Well, Jon Bellion (one of the writers) literally has a song dedicated to the 80s

Love both Luke's a Joe's new albums! The TOTO tour is scheduled to start in July, but say if it needs to be postponed due to Covid still lingering, and with some extra time on their hands, what about recording a new TOTO studio album with the awesome new lineup and together with Dave? That could come out in 2022. They could therefore tour all 3 albums in one go.
