A wealthy French banker, Albert Kahn used his fortune to finance a team of photographers to travel all over the world and document as many cultures as possible from 1909 to 1931. At the time, most elites in Europe saw cross-cultural interaction as a way to "civilize" the rest of the world. But Kahn was more interested in celebrating the world just as it was, and many believe he succeeded. In the end, Kahn and his photographers captured 72,000 color photos across 50 countries.
