Bird Training Tutorial | Target Training & Spin Trick!

Target training is an extremely helpful behavior when training birds because it can guide your bird without force. Target training is simply teaching your bird to follow and touch a target object, usually a chopstick, and then using the stick to train tricks like spin, recall, and tunnel. It can also be an effective tool in taming a bird that has not been taught to step up yet.
Spin is an easy first trick to train birds not used to doing tricks. All they need to do is follow the target stick, and it makes for an entertaining bonding experience between you and your parrot!

Aww they are so well trained! You must have the patience of a saint. Louie is so stubborn. I just tried to teach him to put a harness on, and he will have nothing of it! 😂 I hope I’ll have better luck in the future with him, or with a future bird possibly..

I don't want my bird to do circus tricks...I want him to trust my hand or stick. He won't eat millet because he now knows it's my way of bribing him. He will eat millet if I leave it in his cage. He trusts me enough to come close to the cage bars and we are about 10" apart or less. He will whistle and chirp at me and I even do a whistle the same as he does and we have a whistle game...but that all ends when I put my hand in his cage other than to change his water/food. He will observe me doing what I am doing and seems interested, but that's it. He was 8 months old, so the pet shop owner told me and this was at the end or towards the end of July 2021 (currently, it is Octobr 6th 2021). He has only bit me once and that was when I first had him. This was because I went to change his food and he hissed, then bit and it drew blood....so I am conscious of another bite. I have let him out of his cage, well I used the millet/perch trick and he just jumped onto the perch I was holding and he flew to the top of his cage and refused to get back in....
